Ischia, the largest of the islands in the Bay of Naples, is a volcanic island with fine sandy beaches; lush, fresh pine forests and mountains with Mount Epomeo the highest at 788 metres. There is an abundance of natural hot springs and thermal mineral waters which have been used for thousands of years for therapeutic purposes and which nowadays form the basis of the Spa Parks - utilising the healing properties of the waters in combination with natural saunas, hydro-massage, massage, aromatherapy, music therapy and vapour inhalations.
Then there are the fishing villages of Ischia Ponte and Sant'Angelo with their twisting, narrow lanes and façades decorated with Saracen-inspired arches; the hillside towns with austere houses with barrel-shaped roofs and the aristocratic palazzos in the old centres of Forio and Ischia. Let's not forget the La Mortella Gardens near Forio, with their tropical vegetation, delicate orchids and many rare varieties of plants and flowers cultivated with years of hard work and dedication.
After a 50 minute hydrofoil journey across the Bay of Naples to the island, you'll have some free time to look around the main town of Ischia on your own.
Afterwards, you'll meet up with your guide and be given a comprehensive tour of the island which will last approximately until lunch-time.
The afternoon is spent at the La Mortella Gardens where you can explore this oasis of tranquility at your leisure.
